Genoa, the charming city

“Vedrai una città regale addossata ad una collina alpestre, superba per uomini e per mura, il cui solo aspetto la indica Signora del Mare: Genova.”

These are the words that the famous poet Francesco Petrarca chose to describe his first impression of Genoa. The city was depicted like a sophisticated woman, which reigns over the sea with an aristocratic and superb attitude.

Standing between hills and sea, it connects two different landscapes apparently distant. But the beauty of Genoa is also emphasised by the interweaving of alleys crossing the city in every direction.

Here, in the so called caruggi, thousands of lives and energies daily meet and discover each other. What is particular about Genoa is the fact that the same streets, during the night, turn into the setting of a twisted game based on misery and luxury.

As you walk though the alleys, the smell of the typical food called focaccia and the fishermen’s voice will guide you to the place where everything comes to life: the sea. Here are reflected the figures of colourful Renaissance palaces, among which stands the symbol of the city: the famous Lanterna (the Lighthouse).

I’ve known Genoa for twenty years but it fascinates me every time like the first time, so I give you a suggestion: discover it and let yourself fall in love with it.

Genoa is like a passionate story, you can read it a million times and never get enough.
